Research summary
While men’s involvement in Métis political organizing has been well-documented, there is still a substantive gap in understanding the role of women in Métis politics. As Canada Research Chair in Métis Women, Politics, and Community, Dr. Jennifer Adese aims to fill it.
Adese and her research team are examining the roots of Métis women’s marginalization and how Métis women use political organizing to address the effects of colonization, sexism and racism on their families, communities and nation. By introducing Indigenous feminist analysis to Métis politics, this research will establish Métis women’s significant influence on the political landscape. It will also counter the narrow view of Métis national politics as almost exclusively a male domain.
