Research summary
The importance of storing, managing and analyzing data effectively is well understood. But Dr. Sheelagh Carpendale also wants to make data more usable, understandable and trustworthy.
As Canada Research Chair in Information Visualization, Carpendale wants to empower people to make effective, evidence-based decisions by using data visualization to glean more insight from data. Data visualization draws on diverse fields, such as computing science, design, cognition, perception and graphics to create interactive visual representations of data that are accessible and explorable. Ultimately, Carpendale’s goal is to make it easier for people to explore data and discover answers to previously unasked questions.
