Research summary
Although the number of children with spinal cord injuries is relatively low, the consequences are devastating for those who do experience them—as well as their families. But most research has focused on spinal cord injury in adults. As Canada Research Chair in Open Science and Epidemiology, Dr. Jacquelyn Cragg aims to change this by conducting comprehensive epidemiological studies focused on spinal cord injuries in children.
Cragg and her research team are collecting, analyzing and interpreting data related to the incidence, prevalence, risk factors and outcomes of children with these injuries. They hope to identify trends, patterns and potential modifiable factors that contribute to spinal cord injuries in children, laying the foundation for targeted prevention strategies. Ultimately, their goal is to reduce the incidence of paediatric spinal cord injuries, improve outcomes for affected children, and enhance the overall quality of life for this vulnerable population.
