Research summary

The barriers to gender equality are deeply ingrained in our society. Women continue to have less access to quality education and economic resources, and also tend to be under-represented at all levels of politics. Dr. Danielle Gaucher, Canada Research Chair in Social Inequality, Gender, Public Policy, is investigating what contributes to these social inequalities and gender equality barriers.

Gaucher and her research team are examining everything from contemporary gender stereotypes to how biased language can affect people’s choice of occupation. In particular, they are focusing on how barriers at the individual and institutional levels perpetuate gender inequality. Ultimately, their goal is to understand when, where and why particular barriers to gender equality exist, and to provide insights and tools that foster greater equality for all.
