Research summary
The “Internet of Things” is ushering in a world where we will depend on computing devices every second of our lives. So it is critical that end users—who do not typically have access to source code or sometimes even executable files—can verify the security and safety of their devices instead of blindly trusting those who sell these devices.
Dr. David Lie, Canada Research Chair in Secure and Reliable Systems, is developing such methods. He and his research team are using a combination of dynamic test generation, machine learning and code analysis to develop techniques that will help end users check the security of their devices themselves.
