With obesity and diabetes on the rise in Canada and globally, early intervention through better nutrition is key to ensuring the health of both individuals and populations. As well as having a profound impact on human health, poor diets pose a major challenge to the health of the planet.
Dr. Vasanti Malik, Canada Research Chair in Nutrition and Chronic Disease Prevention, is taking a lifespan approach to her research, focusing on child obesity and metabolic health during pregnancy. She and her research team are also identifying environmentally sustainable diets that promote human and planetary health. They are tackling issues that are important to society through local, global and multidisciplinary projects.
