Research summary

Chronic kidney disease is a leading cause of illness and death worldwide. Acute kidney injury is an important risk factor for progressive kidney disease, and it is particularly devastating for people with kidney transplants.

As Canada Research Chair in Vascular Inflammation and Kidney Injury, Dr. Lisa Robinson is trying to understand the molecular mechanisms behind acute kidney injury and chronic kidney disease. She and her research team are also investigating whether the molecules involved in these processes might offer therapeutic value. This unique approach combines techniques in molecular biology, biochemistry, and high-resolution cellular imaging with animal models of acute kidney injury and kidney transplantation.
