Research summary
Sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections (STBBIs) include HIV, hepatitis B and C, gonorrhea and syphilis. As Canada Research Chair in Program Science and Global Public Health, Dr. Souradet Shaw is working to understand why these infections are unevenly distributed among places, people and their networks.
Shaw and his research team are exploring how factors at the individual, geographic and societal level have an impact on epidemics, and how infection epidemics, in turn, affect the programs that are meant to stop their spread. Ultimately, they hope to curb STBBI epidemics in Canada and globally by helping to design and deliver programs in the communities that are most affected.
