Research summary

Our sexual relationships play an important role in our overall health. As Canada Research Chair in Intimate Relationships and Sexual Wellbeing, Dr. Sophie Bergeron aims to better understand what prevents adolescents and adults from forging satisfying intimate and sexual relationships.

Bergeron and her research team are studying factors that may facilitate these relationships—such as social support, intimacy and attachment—and developing and evaluating new interventions to improve people’s intimate and sexual relationships across their lifespans. They are also focusing on inclusion and diversity challenges that are specific to vulnerable populations, such as sexual and gender minorities, and examining the growing role of technologies in our social ties.
