Research summary

Policy-makers find it challenging to prioritize actions for tackling unfair health inequality, partly because scientific methods have prioritized improving efficiency and effectiveness rather than reducing inequalities. To help redress this situation, Ali’s research focuses on:

  • developing methods to monitor how well public health and healthcare organizations are performing to reduce health inequalities at national, provincial and local levels;
  • evaluating the impact of present and future health policies on health inequalities; and
  • developing methods to include health inequality concerns into decisions for allocating health sector resources.
