Research Summary

Health inequities are a persistent challenge in health systems worldwide. To support better health policy, Dr. Shehzad Ali, Canada Research Chair in Public Health Economics, is generating evidence and tools to help decision-makers design policies and interventions that are both fair and effective.

He and his research team are focusing on three areas: developing new ways to monitor health system performance; eliciting societal values to guide policy decisions; and creating methods to integrate equity considerations into health and economic modelling. Drawing on large-scale health data, real-world case studies, and studies that test what the public values, their work will reveal where inequities arise, how they affect care, and which interventions can address them. By embedding equity into performance monitoring and decision-making processes, this research will support more just, evidence-based health policy in Canada and beyond.
