Research summary
Gender-based violence (GBV) is a "wicked" social problem that defies easy solution because of its large social and economic burden, knowledge gaps, multiple stakeholders, lack of consensus?and even controversy?about approaches to the problem and potential solutions. Its interconnectedness with other problems, including trauma, mental health, substance use, poverty and discrimination, compound these issues. Working with partners to ensure that policy and practice decisions are knowledge-based, Dr. Nadine Wathen’s research program will develop and synthesize new evidence in the area of GBV, and examine how to develop and mobilize this evidence to ensure that it is available to decision-makers, particularly Canadian public policy-makers.
