Research summary

More than a quarter of a million Canadians suffer from inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), a chronic condition that causes inflammation in the small or large intestine.

Dr. Kenneth Croitoru, Canada Research Chair in Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, is trying to understand and prevent the development and progression of IBD. He and his research team are working to determine the genetic, immune, environmental and microbial factors that contribute to the onset of IBD. They have established a “bench to bedside” research portfolio with a focus on the role that immune cells and host-bacterial interactions play in the disease.
