Research summary

How healthy you are can depend on where you live as well as on factors such as gender, race, ethnicity, age and socio-economic status. These elements not only influence your risk of illness, but also the likelihood that you will receive the health services you need to treat it. Dr. Patricia O’Campo, Canada Research Chair in Population Health Intervention Research, is evaluating interventions and informing the design of health and social protection programs and policies to reduce these health inequities in urban areas.

O’Campo and her research team are evaluating innovative social and health policy solutions to address urban health inequities. They are also generating theories about how interventions address these inequities and affect health outcomes. In addition, they are working with community and policy partners to ensure that evidence related to strong social protection programs and policies is widely shared and implemented sustainably.
