Research summary
Most medications given to children in Canadian hospitals have not actually been properly tested on children, so we don’t know for sure whether they are safe and effective or the right dose. Dr. Yaron Finkelstein, Canada Research Chair in Pediatric Drug Safety and Efficacy, is working to rectify this situation.
With the goal of ensuring that children get the best possible care, Finkelstein and his research team are identifying the safest and most effective medications for sick and injured children. They are also uncovering risk factors, long-term outcomes and new interventions to reduce harm and deaths due to drug overdose and poisoning. Ultimately, their findings will inform clinicians and policy-makers on the best practices for treating children.
