Research summary

A healthy diet can reduce the risk of developing certain chronic diseases. As the incidence of diet-related diseases continues to increase, there is an urgent need for policy change. Dr. Mahsa Jessri, Canada Research Chair in Nutritional Epidemiology and Big Data Analytics, is working on research to inform changes to Canada’s nutrition policies.

Jessri and her research team are developing multi-dimensional dietary patterns aimed at preventing chronic diseases and investigating the systems that underpin policies, such as those related to package labelling. The innovative big data infrastructure they are maintaining will enable state-of-the-art, timely modelling of how Canadians’ health and health care outcomes might shift in response to policy changes that focus on food supply.
