Research summary
Domestic violence and child abuse are a major global health concern, and can cause their sufferers long-lasting health, social and economic consequences. Dr. Katreena Scott, Canada Research Chair in Ending Child Abuse and Domestic Violence, is investigating ways to enhance children’s health and well-being by reducing violence in family relationships.
Scott and her research team are particularly interested in addressing violence perpetrated by men. Their work incorporates multiple interrelated studies and uses a variety of research methods that involve children, families and professional participants. They are focusing on three specific areas: promoting safety for children in high-risk families, working collaboratively to improve responses to domestic violence, and recognizing and responding to maltreated children in schools.
