Research summary
More than a million Canadians live with heart disease or have suffered a stroke. Recent studies have identified a large number of genetic variations associated with heart disease—but despite this knowledge, clinical genetic testing is limited to rare diseases and some genetic anomalies.
As Canada Research Chair in Translational Cardiovascular Genetics, Dr. Rafik Tadros is integrating years of genetics research to try to address this gap. He and his research team are conducting comprehensive genetic risk assessments to identify individuals who are at risk of heart disease and stroke. This will allow for individualized measures to prevent complications while limiting unnecessary tests and treatments.
