Research summary

We often think of migration as something people do, moving from one country to another. But media technologies and video content also migrate-and their movements can tell us a lot about globalization, economies and cultures. Dr. Ishita Tiwary, Canada Research Chair in Media and Migration, is interested in this phenomenon.

She and her research team are investigating how practices of media and migration open up questions of representation and circulation with regards to the socio-cultural fabric. To study these issues, they are creating a community-driven research space, an interactive digital platform and a community library. By offering a comprehensive inventory of best practices and a range of collaborations, they aim to create Canada’s first institutional hub for the study of media and migration. Ultimately, the result will be a space where expert knowledge on migration and media can be generated and accumulated.
