Research summary

Property law is designed to bring structure to relationships between people and objects or resources from the outside world. Dr. Yaëll Emerich, Canada Research Chair in Transsystemic Property Law and Sustainable Communities, is working within this field of law to adapt the legal framework to contemporary environmental issues and urban communities.

Emerich and her research team plan to transform traditional designs that involve absolute individual ownership to imagine and establish a legal space geared to sustainable, inclusive communities for the city of tomorrow. This alternative will be based mainly on concepts like common property, collective ownership and fiduciary relationships.
