Research summary

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia, and is a leading cause of death in Canada. Unfortunately, there are limited treatments for this devastating disease.

As Canada Research Chair in Translational Neuroscience and Dementia, Dr. Brianne Kent is trying to understand how changes in sleep and circadian rhythms contribute to the cognitive deficits associated with Alzheimer’s. She and her research team hope to identify new treatments that will prevent the progressive-and currently irreversible-memory loss associated with the disease. They also hope to improve the health and quality of life of Alzheimer’s patients and their families, and to reduce the economic burden of the disease.
