Research summary

Quantum technology will spark the next technological revolution, yielding ultra-fast computers, secure communicators, unprecedentedly sensitive sensors and many other innovations. But building large-scale quantum devices using currently available technologies is challenging.

Dr. Hoi-Kwan Lau, Canada Research Chair in Quantum Information Science, is studying another type of quantum technology: those built with infinite-level (bosonic) systems. Boson systems are everywhere, store plenty of information, and can be readily built to a large scale. Lau and his research team are imagining how a bosonic device could benefit people in their daily lives and exploring how to build such a device with fewer errors.
