Social environments can have a direct impact on the health of individuals and communities. As a social epidemiologist and Canada Research Chair in Social Environment and Child Health, Dr. Roman Pabayo is investigating how this influence works, with a focus on people’s and communities’ health behaviours and outcomes.
He and his research team aim to understand how social factors can contribute to ill health by studying the relationship between income inequality and social fragmentation and health in children, adolescents and the population at large. Their research also involves analyzing large national surveys and longitudinal studies of selected school populations. This work will have an important impact on public policy, and could lead to new interventions that reduce health inequalities and improve population health.
