Research summary

Global health systems face complex challenges in how they organize and deliver care. Meeting the diverse health needs of patients while containing overall costs demands investments in innovations. Although these investments can enhance health equity, some may inadvertently exacerbate inequities. As Canada Research Chair in Responsible Health Innovation, Dr. Jay Shaw aims to improve community-based health and rehabilitation care for marginalized communities by generating and refining socially responsible approaches to health innovation.

To accomplish this goal, Shaw and his research team are expanding the concept of responsible innovation. They are identifying ways to design and deliver community-based care that best meets the needs of low-income adults with complex co-morbidities. They are also designing and implementing digital health innovations that better address these patients’ care needs. By partnering with health system decision-makers nationwide, Shaw’s research will lead to improvements in community-based care across the country.
