Research summary

Humans have been venturing into space for more than six decades. We’ve come a long way, and so have the communications technologies that allow missions to be carried out safely. In the current era of multi-purpose operations that involve orbiting the moon and other planets, space missions require secure, robust communications technologies.

As Canada Research Chair in New Frontiers in Space Communications, Dr. Karabulut Kurt is developing communications technologies for emerging space networks and conducting state-of-the-art theoretical research. Using simulations, experiments and cutting-edge equipment, she and her research team are tackling issues in global access and designing innovative, space-based services to support the sustainability and security of space networks. They are also developing an autonomous radio resource framework suited for the complex nature of space networks with the goal of establishing beyond-Earth connectivity for humanity .
