Research summary

Targeted, practical and effective nutrition interventions are key to reducing the burden of chronic diseases, including obesity. As Canada Research Chair in Nutrition and Energy Metabolism in Chronic Disease, Dr. Sarah Purcell is testing the hypothesis that certain chronic diseases have unique physiological, psychological and behavioural characteristics that affect people’s energy intake requirements and their responses to fluctuations in energy levels.

She and her research team hope their findings will help fill critical knowledge gaps in the design of new evidence-based nutrition interventions for people with chronic diseases. Their work will also support knowledge translation and help train the next generation of health researchers and practitioners.
