Research summary
Intersecting factors at the individual, social and environmental levels can reduce or amplify health disparities in youth populations over time. To find out more about these influences, Dr. Karen Patte, Canada Research Chair in Child Health Equity and Inclusion, is using population-level survey methods linked to comprehensive data about school and community contexts.
She and her research team are integrating these influences with qualitative and youth engagement components to arrive at a nuanced, holistic understanding of the factors that fuel the development of health disparities. They are also developing an inclusive youth engagement program to integrate youth voices into their research and ensure that the results appropriately capture the experiences and needs of a diverse group of youths, particularly those from equity-deserving groups.
