Research summary

We know that exposure to certain chemicals in workplaces and our general environment can influence the development of cancer, especially prostate cancer. Dr. Marie-Élise Parent, Canada Research Chair in Environmental Epidemiology of Cancer, is trying to shed light on how and why this happens.

She and her research team are studying the risk factors associated with the progression of prostate cancer. They are also developing a research tool to support future studies of how sedentary behaviour and physical activity influence cancer and other outcomes, accounting for sex- and gender-based differences in workplace tasks and energy expenditure. By identifying modifiable risk factors, their research will help guide the development of regulations, policies and strategies to combat cancer in the general population.
