Research summary

Nearly half of the world’s population lives in poverty—and more than 800 million people live in extreme poverty. As many as up to 3.5 billion people also lack access to the health services they need. As Canada Research Chair in Global Health and Humanitarianism, Dr. Godfred Boateng aims to address global health priorities that urgently require anticipatory, instead of reactionary, approaches.

He and his research team are focusing on resource insecurity, health and sustainable livelihoods, environment, and disease vulnerability. They aim to better understand and quantify the synergistic epidemics of food, water, energy and housing insecurity and their compounding effects, as well as the role of environmental pollution and climatic conditions on the health of vulnerable populations. Ultimately, their research will provide humanitarian organizations with better tools to assess and support the most vulnerable citizens in times of crises.
