Research summary
Intelligent software systems integrate artificial intelligence (AI), and are increasingly used in large-scale, critical systems like autonomous vehicles, air traffic control and energy grid management. But ensuring their trustworthiness is critical—as evidenced by the troubling incident that involved a self-driving car hitting a pedestrian in 2018. To build trust in these systems, we must ensure that the decisions their components make are reliable, fair and cannot cause harm.
As Canada Research Chair in Trustworthy Intelligent Software Systems, Dr. Foutse Khomh is contributing theories, methods and tools to help develop, deploy, maintain and evolve trustworthy intelligent software systems. He and his research team hope to produce knowledge that Canadian organizations can use both to develop systems that will improve Canadians’ quality of life and to gain a competitive edge in the booming AI market.
