Research summary

Nutrition is always essential for muscle health and overall well-being—but it is even more important during and after battling cancer. Yet current guidelines do not provide detailed enough advice, especially for cancer survivors. Survivors are sometimes misunderstood as being completely recovered, but may continue to experience life-long consequences of their illness.

As Canada Research Chair in Integrative Nutrition, Body Composition and Energy Metabolism, Dr. Carla Prado aims to transform how we think about and prescribe nutrition in health care. She and her research team are integrating body composition and energy metabolism into clinical nutritional assessment guidelines and targeted nutrition interventions for people experiencing and surviving cancer, particularly women and immigrants. They are using cutting-edge technologies and approaches to create new knowledge, refine nutritional assessment and intervention guidelines, and ultimately improve the health of millions of people worldwide.
