Research summary
Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning have the potential to revolutionize how we conduct psychological and educational research by enabling the processing and analyzing of large, complex datasets. But this potential brings with it critical challenges. One key issue is how to minimize the risk of misapplying these advanced technologies, which could result in biased and misleading research outcomes and misguided policies.
As Canada Research Chair in Psychometrics and Responsible Artificial Intelligence, Dr. Feng Ji is addressing these challenges by developing responsible AI methods and applications tailored for educational and psychological research. He and his research team are focusing on three areas: incorporating multimodal data to improve measurement and assessment techniques; enhancing the robustness and scalability of research methods using AI and machine learning; and advancing the ethical and responsible use of AI in research. Their findings will help to ensure these powerful tools are applied properly to produce valid, reliable and ethically sound results.
