Understanding brain-vision interactions

Our everyday visual perception, cognitive abilities and movements are profoundly influenced by attention, and vice versa. As Canada Research Chair in Vision, Attention and Action, Dr. Aarlenne Khan’s research aims to understand this complex interaction to advance diagnostic and rehabilitation tools.

Many neurological diseases, such as brain lesions, result in profound visual, sensory-motor or cognitive deficits, such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, schizophrenia, dementia and Alzheimer’s. Khan and her team are working to determine what zones in the brain play a central role in these symptoms. The goal is to determine how they can be reduced through readaptation.
