Research summary

In recent decades, biomaterials, artificial organs and medical implants have been used to improve quality of the life for millions of people. But the clinical application of biomaterials and medical devices isn’t always successful because complications can arise.

As Canada Research Chair in Biomaterials and Bioengineering for the Innovation in Surgery, Dr. Diego Mantovani aims to improve the performance of medical devices. He and his research team are coming up with ways to develop physiologically relevant models for assessing and predicting the success of medical devices and drugs. Ultimately, their findings will advance the field of regenerative medicine.
