Research summary

Dr. Françoise Montambeault, Canada Research Chair in Participation and Citizenship, aims to shed light on citizenship building from a comparative perspective. Basing their research on a theoretical and empirical analysis of the connections between forms of participation and individual, collective and relational trajectories, Montambeault and her team are trying to better understand institutional and emerging forms of participation and how they interact with the processes of inclusion and the (re)definition and transformation of the boundaries of citizenship regimes.

Guided by an empirical and comparative analysis, they are building their studies around three complementary research poles. These will be based, in turn, on a qualitative research method driven by political ethnography and in-depth field surveys in the Americas.
