Research summary

Species are being reshuffled across our planet at unprecedented rates due to human-generated stresses like climate change, biological invasion and habitat loss. But what will future ecosystems look like and how will they function in the face of these major disturbances?

Dr. Stephanie Green, Canada Research Chair in Aquatic Global Change Ecology and Conservation, is combining field, laboratory and simulation modelling experiments to discover how ocean food webs will change as species shift their ranges and encounter one another for the first time. She and her research team aim to produce new methods of predicting the distribution and abundance of aquatic biodiversity under future environmental conditions. Ultimately, their research will help us understand how to restore and better protect ecosystem function.
