Research summary

Polymeric biomaterials are synthetic or natural materials that are used in everything from nanotechnology to cancer therapies to tissue engineering. As Canada Research Chair in Functional Polymeric Biomaterials, Dr. Vahid Adibnia aims to better understand how functional polymeric biomaterials can solve several biomedical problems by focusing on biosourced and bioinspired approaches in material design.

More specifically, he and his research team are producing knowledge and materials tailored to address three areas: osteoarthritis, wound management and infection of biomedical implants. By using a unique combination of biomaterial design, sustainable and biocompatible engineering, and comprehensive fine-tuning of material properties (from nano- to micro- and macro-scale), Adibnia and his team hope to use translational biomedical engineering to deliver designed biomaterials that can improve the health of patients.
