Research summary

The proposed CRC 2 in Neuroscience, Brain Health and Exercise will address existing gaps in knowledge to enable efficacious precise exercise recommendations to promote healthy cognitive aging and establish “exercise-as-medicine”. The overarching theme of my research program is utilizing mixed-methods, including randomized controlled trials, to better understand moderators and mediators of exercise efficacy for brain health to go beyond the “one-size-fits-all” approach. The specific aims are to: 1) Determine who benefits from exercise by focusing on biological sex and genetics; 2) Examine when in the lifespan to intervene with exercise; 3) Explore how exercise exerts its influence on the brain.
