Buildings play a central role in our lives in Canada, given that we spend nearly 90 per cent of our time in them. Construction is the third leading emitter of greenhouse gases in Canada, which makes it a choice target in the fight against climate change.
This observation drives the efforts of Dr. Pierre Blanchet, Canada Research Chair in Sustainable Buildings. Sustainable buildings are one of the three pillars of sustainable development, with impacts felt at the economic, social and environmental level. Blanchet and his research team are seeking to position sustainable buildings as a primary tool in the fight against climate change to ensure Canadians’ well-being and the health of the Canadian economy.
