Research summary

Quantum photonics is a promising field of technology that harnesses the properties of individual photons—the fundamental particles of light—to enable a variety of quantum applications. As Canada Research Chair in Quantum Photonic Technologies, Dr. Li Qian aims to break new ground by bringing fibre optic technology to this emerging area.

She and her research team are basing their studies on fibre-based entangled photon generation, a technology developed by Qian that has been commercialized and is now used by leading research labs around the world. Their work encompasses tunable and complex entangled state generation, practical entanglement witnesses derived by machine learning, dispersion metrology, and quantum communication applications, such as entanglement distillation and dynamic reconfigurable networks for entanglement distribution. This program is a fertile training ground for future quantum engineers in Canada.
