Research summary

The polar oceans play a crucial role in mitigating climate change. However, fundamental questions still remain about how these regions will respond to our changing climate. Answering these questions is key to improving our ability to project these changes and prepare adaptation strategies.

Dr. Carolina Dufour, Canada Research Chair in Physical Oceanography, is advancing our understanding of polar ocean circulation, the carbon cycle and the cryosphere. Beyond deepening our knowledge of the role of polar oceans in the climate system, she and her research team will provide important guidance for developing the next generation of ocean models and observational networks.
